For the past twelve years, I have worked both in academia and industry. In academia, my research focused on the use of Self- and Direct- Assembly to Design Smart Soft Materials (foams, emulsions and gels). These smart materials, which respond to various stimuli (light, temperature, magnetic field, etc.), are usually designed from synthetic molecules, most of which are harmful to the environment. The novelty of my research is the use of lipids as alternatives to these hazardous substances and to develop new earth-friendly materials. The use of agricultural resources for industrial purposes is one of the major societal challenges of the 21 st century and the development of green soft materials is a growing trend in many industries, including Pharmaceutical, Food, and Cosmetic. The scientific challenge is to understand how to modify the properties of these lipid compounds without synthetic chemistry and to use them as building blocks to design materials responsive to stimuli: light, temperature, and magnetic field. I am focusing on the understanding of the fundamentals of intermolecular and interparticle interactions, which govern the resulting physical properties of the supracolloidal structures. I develop strategies to control these interactions in order to establish new pathways to design responsive materials. I have a particular interest in understanding the link between their structure and their properties at all length scales. For example, with my colleagues and students, we study responsive aqueous and non-aqueous foams stabilized by fatty acids, gelled emulsions, capillary bridges, oleogels, oleofoams, etc. I worked seven years in Industry for L'Oréal company. Working in industry was a good opportunity to discover what applied research is, and to apply my knowledge and skills toward the development of new cosmetic products based on green surfactants, lipids and vegetable oils. Since October 2021, I am researcher at INRAE in the PIHM team in UMET unit in Lille.
